Rising 9th-12th Graders: This course is designed to accomplish the following goals: 

• Building numerical fluency and algebraic reasoning

• Improving mathematical reasoning 

• Tackling complex, multi-step problems 

• Reducing Frustration, Increasing Confidence

• Increasing Stamina

• Developing a Love of Mathematics

High school students often experience a bit of a shock when they encounter the increased complexity and workload from one math course to the next. This course is designed to give students confidence in the foundations of mathematics. While there are a number of areas which we will cover, an example is algebraic reasoning which will allow them to feel more confident when faced with these challenges. Through the years, I have seen the benefits for students who have a strong grasp of numerical fluency and mathematical reasoning. Unfortunately, the pace of the curriculum (especially at the high school level) does not always afford teachers time to incorporate the innovative approaches and activities we will be using in this course. This course will not be like any you or your student has run across before; and, even though they may be voicing their frustration from the moment you hit the registration button all the way until they arrive at class the first time - I can assure you they will leave that first class excited about the next one!
